The registered mobile number in your SBI account is used for receiving OTPs, transaction alerts, account updates, and other security-related messages. If the number is outdated or inactive, you may face issues with logging in, completing transactions, or getting important alerts.

You may need to update your SBI mobile number in various cases, such as phone theft, switching to a new number, loss of access to old numbers, change in service provider, or enhanced security measures.

To continue receiving alerts and to complete banking tasks without disruptions, it’s necessary to keep your mobile number updated in SBI records.

SBI offers multiple ways to update your mobile number through: 

  • Internet Banking 
  • SBI ATM 
  • Branch visit 
  • Contact Centre

Below is a detailed step-by-step guide for each method, including documents required, processing time, and security checks.

Methods to Update Mobile Number in SBI 

Each method has its process, and most require verification through OTP, debit card, or personal ID. 

Once the request is submitted, the update may take 24 to 48 working hours to reflect in your account.

If you no longer have access to your old number, certain methods (like Internet Banking or ATM) may not work, and you’ll need to use the branch or contact centre route.

Method 1: By using the SBI Internet Banking Portal 

You can initiate and complete your mobile number update online using your SBI net banking account. Follow the steps below:

Step 1: Go to the official SBI website.

Step 2: Click on the My Accounts & Profile tab.

Step 3: Go to the Profile > My Profile link.

Step 4: Enter your profile password and submit to proceed.

Step 5: All the details as per the Bank’s record will be displayed to the Customer.

Step 6: Click on the hyperlink “Change Mobile Number- Domestic only (Through ATM/ OTP/ Contact Centre)” available at the bottom right of the screen.

Step 7: On the next screen, three tabs  

  • Create Request
  • Cancel Request
  • Status 

Step 8: Customer has to enter a new mobile and retype the new mobile on the create request tab and submit.

Step 9: The system now prompts the user to select one of the three approval methods:

  • IRATA – Internet Banking Request Approval through ATM
  • OTP on both mobile numbers
  • Approval through Contact Centre

Step 10: Select an account that has an active debit card.

Step 11: Choose the debit card linked to that account.

Step 12: On the next screen, enter the following card details:

  • Valid To/Expiry Date
  • Card Holder Name
  • PIN
  • Captcha (as shown)

Step 13: After successful validation, you’ll see a message:

“Thanks for registering your mobile number with us. The status of your request is pending. Kindly complete the registration process according to the option selected by you. Click here to see the guidelines for process completion.”

Step 14: You’ll also receive an SMS on your new number with:

  • Reference No. (e.g., UMXXXXXXXXXXXX)
  • IRATA Reference No. (10-digit code

Case 1: When you have chosen IRATA

If you selected IRATA, the process must be completed at any SBI ATM using your debit card and the IRATA reference number received.

Step 1: Visit any SBI Group ATM.

Step 2: Swipe your ATM card and enter the card PIN.

Step 3: Go to Services > Other  Internet Banking Request Approval.

Step 4: Enter the 10-digit IRATA reference number received via SMS.

Step 5: Confirm and submit.

Step 6: Once validated, your mobile number is updated in SBI records (INB, CBS, ATM).

Step 7: You’ll receive a confirmation SMS on the new number.

Case 2: When you have chosen OTP 

You can use this step if you have access to both your new and existing mobile numbers.

Step 1: SBI sends OTPs along with the reference number to both the old and new mobile numbers.

Step 2: From your mobile number (both old & new), send an SMS to 567676 within 4 hours in this format:

ACTIVATE <8 digit OTP value> <13 digit reference number>

Step 3: After successful validation, your number will be updated, and a confirmation SMS will be sent.

Case 3: When you have chosen Contact Centre

If you opted for Contact Centre verification, an SBI representative will call you for identity confirmation. 

Step 1: You will receive a reference number via SMS on your new mobile number.

Step 2: Within 3 business days, an SBI Contact Centre executive will call you on your new mobile number.

Step 3: When you receive the call, ask the executive to confirm the reference number to ensure it’s a genuine call.

Note: Do not share your reference number or personal information with anyone else.

Step 4: The executive will ask you a few questions to verify your identity (e.g., DOB, account details).

Step 5: Once the verification is successful, your mobile number will be updated immediately in SBI’s systems.

Step 6: You will receive a confirmation SMS on your new number after the update is completed.

Method 2: By visiting an SBI Branch

You can also update your mobile number by visiting your nearest SBI branch with valid ID proof. 

Step 1: Go to the nearest SBI branch in your area.

Step 2: Get the Letter of Request and fill it out.

Step 3: Once the details have been filled in on the form, submit it.

Step 4: The branch will perform the linking after successful verification.

Step 5: You will receive an SMS on your registered phone number regarding the status update.

Note: Make sure to carry original identity proof such as an Aadhar card, PAN, or government-issued ID, and your new phone number.

Method 3: By Visiting an SBI ATM

SBI allows you to update your mobile number directly at any of its ATMs using your debit card. Follow the steps below:

Step 1: Visit your nearest SBI ATM branch in your locality.

Step 2: Insert your SBI debit card and select the Registration option from the list of options.

Step 3: Enter the ATM PIN and click on Mobile Number Registration > Change Mobile Number.

Step 4: Enter your old registered mobile number and confirm it.

Step 5: After that, you will be asked to enter your new mobile number.

Step 6: Different OTPs will be sent to both of your numbers with the following message: 

Please send OTP and reference number received in SMS from the new as well as existing mobile number in the following format ACTIVATE IOTP VALUE + REF NUMBER TO 567676 within 4 hours.

Updating your mobile number in SBI is a one-time task, but it requires complete verification to go through. Choose the method that suits your access, such as ATM, OTP, Contact Centre, or branch and make sure to finish the final step to avoid delays.
